Amanda is the UK’s foremost sand cast glass artist. Herwork has a masterful fluency that depends entirely on thecasting being completed in a single stage. As the moltenglass begins to solidify, she intervenes, manipulating itwith her hands, coaxing new shapes to materialise.
Each piece of glass is therefore a subtle collaboration ofartistry and chemistry. Unusually, Amanda produces allthe raw materials used to colour the glass herself. TheOxides used in the process are what help to define eachsculpture. The end result is always something unique -an original work of art.
Born in 1964, Amanda studied at the Central School ofArt and Design in London. After graduating with a1st Class Honours degree in 3D glass design, she wasgiven two scholarships, first to the Tyler School of Art inPhiladelphia and secondly to the Massachusetts Collegeof Art in Boston.
