Nick Goodwin

Nick Goodwin was born in Cambridgeshire in 1975 and now lives in Northumberland. He was formally trained in illustration at Falmouth College of Art where he discovered Photorealism, an American art movement from the 1960-70's. He instantly felt a connection with this precise practice of using photographic images as the primary subject matter. He has since continued to play with this genre by working it into his own unique style. From early portraits to his wine and champagne bottles Goodwin continually challenges himself both technically and compositionally with each piece in order to create a semblance of realism that transcends his subject (the photograph).   His aim is to provide the viewer with the opportunity to savour his subjects close up, enabling them to appreciate and find beauty in things in a way that they may not have previously noticed.
